How to Test a Remote with a Phone Camera
Use a smartphone camera for a quick check of the infrared signal from a TV, AC or media remote.
Prepare the remote
Insert fresh batteries and clean the battery contacts if necessary. Open your phone camera and place the remote's infrared transmitter close to the camera lens.
Look for a flash
Press and hold a button while viewing the transmitter through the phone screen. A working infrared remote commonly appears as a white, purple or pink flashing light. Test several buttons because one damaged button does not always mean the entire remote has failed.
Understand the result
A visible flash shows that the remote is transmitting, but it does not prove that the signal code matches your device. No visible flash can indicate battery, contact, keypad or transmitter trouble. Some phones filter infrared light, so verify with another camera when possible.
Know the limitation
Bluetooth and radio-frequency remotes may not produce a visible infrared flash for every function. Smart remotes can also require pairing, so use the device manual or contact RemoteHub.lk if the camera result is unclear.
